This new series called Duel Sunsets...is such a great outlet for being creative. I start with shells I find or buy,,,then the fun begins. Since I live on the central coast,,,there is unlimited great pics of sunsets, so I put the two together. The next post will start from the beginning of the next work...with airbrush demos to the finish...stay tuned !!

Water Hazard steps. Another painting of the series I am working on with a hidden golf ball. Started several years ago with the idea that golfers need a surprise gift for their walls. Very fun to paint...and love the reaction.
This piece is posted about half finished...working of color and surface detail. The main focus will be red kelp and other things you might find in a tide pool. But the golf ball will be the last object you see with surprise I hope. Almost finished..will post in the next couple days.

Tide Pool 8
Interesting macro shot of a very small tide bubble...then to enlarge it to see all the detail that normally is overlooked. Then with layering of color and reflections to get the 3D pop. Love the challenge !!!!

TIDE POOL 7
After several weeks of adding color layers and pushing back some of the details,,,but saving the best for last....the main bubble and its reflections. Its always a process to make the main focus of the painting to POP. If it does not...the work seems dull.

Several weeks ago, Paso Robles celebrated its once a year "Pioneer Days Parade" this tractor pulled the Studios On The Park float. Its a 1958 collectors item, imported from Germany several years ago,,,who knew? Never really thought about painting a tractor,,,but because its a Porsche,,I had to attempt it.

" Two Sunsets" 18x24 acrylic
This shell has been around a while....I have wanted to come up with a painting with the shell as the focal point,,,but did not want it to look like every other sea shell painting that we have all seen. I guess if you study it long enough,,,something will come,,,and it did. I will be painting a much larger canvas , similar idea soon.

Long Horn & Magpie / background change
After finishing the Long Horn...and seeing it in different settings, the background of solid gray,, just really bothered me. The painting needed a horizon line and color for the sky and foreground, now I'm happy with it.
